The Biggest Fears Around Hiring a Brand Designer or Agency
How To Face Your Fears Hiring a Logo Designer or Branding Agency for Your Church or Ministry to Move Your Mission Forward
Are you feeling overwhelmed about hiring a brand expert or marketing agency for your brand? Believe me, I get it! When you’re leading a church, non-profit, or other mission-focused organization, it can feel daunting to trust an outside person with the vision and brand you've worked so hard to establish and grow.
Some common Concerns include:
What if I don’t like the logo or other visual branding?
What if I spend more money than it’s worth?
Will the process be too time-consuming?
What if my message gets distorted or lost?
Will an outside source have the same passion for the work I’m doing?
These are all real and understandable concerns. But if you let them keep you in analysis paralysis, you won’t get the traction you need to make the most out of your brand and move your worthy mission forward.
After years of partnering with churches, ministries, and other faith-based organizations on their mission-focused branding, I’ve learned a few things about what makes a successful partnership. Here are my 5 mindset tips to set your collaboration up for success.
1. Find the Right Partnership
The things you should look at in a brand identity partnership have everything to do with the outcome.
Find an expert or agency that has had time and experience under their belt to ensure you are getting the right files, have a clear process, and complete the project properly.
Have a healthy budget and realistic expectations to properly invest in your brand identity.
Find an expert that has a style that resonates with your brand and envisioned aesthetic.
Make sure that the expert understands how to create a brand identity that connects with your target audience.
2. Communication is Key
As with any healthy relationship, clear communication is crucial! Educate your designer or agency about your organization’s mission, audience, and short and long-term vision before designing. Thoroughly articulating your ultimate goal will help your brand expert to visually communicate the right message, so it doesn’t fall flat on your audience.
3. Be An Active Participant in the Process
Stay involved, share feedback, give approvals, and ask questions about the creative process so you stay on the same page with your branding expert. Create regular check-in points and give open and honest feedback along the way. Stay focused on your target audience and how they will receive the branding, rather than your personal opinions and preferences.
4. Keep An Open Mind
It’s important to talk about expectations when it comes to the project deliverables and timeline, while still being flexible about any additional time needed for your brand and ideas to take form. Both parties should remain open to changing the direction of the design if it isn’t working to connect with your target audience. One of the many benefits of partnering with a professional is their experience and expertise. Keep an open mind, and remember that taking your brand to the next level may require you to think outside the box or step out of your comfort zone.
